In my defense, I have a lot of pockets.

In my defense, I have a lot of pockets.

I've posted about my EDC (Every Day Carry) before. It's been well over a year and a few things have changed, plus with the current COVID-19 stuff going on it has been modified. Now it is going to seem like a lot of stuff, and it is, but I still own Scottevest hidden cargo pants that have multiple deep pockets. Similar situation for my laptop bag - it gets changed around - so a few items I carried in a pocket have been either moved to the laptop bag or the car. For example I used to carry around Field Notes but I simply moved them to the laptop bag and keep a spare in the car.

I was asked by multiple people about firearms on the last EDC post. I don't carry a firearm on my person when out and about. It should be noted that if I were to do so I'd get a concealed carry license, because I will not open carry, mainly because it goes against the whole “going gray” philosophy.

Anyway, the list is below. Some of the links are affiliate links to Amazon - I use the money to help offset the cost of this website, and it does not cost you any extra to use those links.

1. Mask. Usually deep in a front pocket unless I am wearing it. This one was made by Cloth and Crafts, and while it is perfectly usable as is, it has a pocket for a filter. I have several of these, this one is of course in hacker gray. I cut up a Filtrete 1900 HVAC filter and made insertable filters for this mask, and it works perfectly.

2. Car key fob. This stays home when I travel. I added a Tom Bihn zipper pull for easier access. The one key is for my workshop.

3. Keybar. I use this for the very few keys I have. No rattling key ring! Stays at home when I travel.

4. Apple Watch series 1. I've had this for years, the big uses are Apple Pay, and the alerts (covered in another blog post). Between the alerts on my iPhone and this watch, the various vibrations on one or the other allow me to identify 5 different notifications. For example only my phone vibrates on email, and the watch vibrates on SMS messages. Other apps use different vibration patterns, so I've learned the differences.

5. Bait wallet. This is the cheap one that is in my back pocket. I've been pick-pocketed a lot (last time was 2017 as I've changed tactics a bit). This is my third bait wallet.

6. Allett Leather Wallet. This thing has lasted for years, it was a gift, and it has my initials on it. There are better wallets but I will keep this until it completely wears out. The RFID capability it supposedly has does not work, but I still like it.

7. Sprigs wrist wallet. My most used cards go here. When traveling, hotel card keys or similar access cards go there as well. It has a small pocket which I use for a miniature baggie of my meds, although I only use that for social distancing parking lot dinners right now. I have two Sprigs, one black and one gray, mainly so I can wash one as they tend to act as a sweat band.

8. Benchmade Freek 560. This has a serrated CPM-S30V drop point blade with a black finish, and comes with the Versaflex black and gray handle, which is grippy rubber material. Originally I was going to replace those rubber-like scales with custom ones, but really got use to the feel. Wickedly nice knife. Obviously this doesn't go on a plane with me. I keep it on my belt in a cheap leather holder I need to replace.

9. iPhone X. I talked about my reasoning for having an iPhone in another blog post, this thing is with me all the time. It is in a Speck iPhone case, which is decently priced, protects from high drops, and is easy-to-grip.

10. cDc challenge coin. The Cult of the Dead Cow (whose initials were stolen by the Center for Disease Control because they loved cDc) is a rather infamous hacking group. I’ve known them for years and years, and was thrilled to get this thing. I keep it on me as a reminder of who I am and what I need to do with my life. Oom, bitches. Oom.

11. Kingston Dual USB Flash Drive. This little USB flash drive is not only 128gb, it has both a USB A and USB C connector on it. Great for transferring files when you are unsure which USB port will be there or be freed up.

12. Solar Shield clip-on sunglasses. Cheap clip-ons. If I were more hip, I'd have cool prescription shades, but these are cheap. They break often, so I keep a spare at home.

13. Pocket Runt. God I love this thing, had it for ages, I feel naked without it. This holds a multi-tool, a flashlight, a pen, another multi-tool/pry bar, and a mini knife sharpener (see below for a breakdown).

14. Keyport MOCA 10-in-1 Key Tool. A nice pry tool and box opener, which seems to compliment my Leatherman. It has other functions but those are the main ones I use it for. It is small enough I used to have it on my Keybar.

15. Benchmade mini sharpener. This came with the knife, and truthfully I do not remember if this was free from the knife shop where I bought the Freek or included in the box with the knife. Not a great sharpener, but good enough in a pinch to carry with me.

16. Leatherman Style PS Multitool. Since there is no blade this travels with me, and TSA has spotted it a couple of times on a backpack x-ray but let it through no problem. This gets used daily.

17. Lumintop AAA Flashlight. Another item I use daily is my small Lumintop AAA, I've reversed the clip which allows me to clip it to a hat brim and use it as a headlamp (hat is in the laptop bag). More than once I've needed that thing on the hat while doing something with the Leatherman, or taking notes in the dark.

18. Fisher Space Pen. This is used a lot. Works fantastically.

That’s the pocket dump for now, it used to get changed around a bit more often. Granted with a pandemic the biggest change has been the addition of a mask. If things were a bit more normal in the world it might look a bit different. Comments? Questions? Let me know!
